This year for DETONATE, we will be digging into the LIVE curriculum from Bible Engagement Project. Here is our Session Overview:
Jesus’ offer is remarkably clear: If we look for Jesus, we’ll find Him. He’s not hiding from us, but closely connecting with Him does take us being intentional. We’re called to follow Him, to pursue Him. In this volume, we’ll look at how individuals pursued Jesus through the challenges of their circumstances. Pursuing Jesus is not only a mental exercise for personal growth, but it also means living out our faith in tangible ways: showing up, listening carefully, receiving grace, and trusting Him.
In this Live session, kids will discover how to remain strong and stand firm against pressures from the world. In our Bible story, Pilate knew Jesus didn’t deserve to die, but he listened to the crowd instead of taking a stand to do what was right. As followers of God, we’re called to remain strong and stand out from the crowd. It won’t al-ways be easy, but God will give us the strength we need to remain strong.
In this Live session, kids will discover how to live such a bold life for Jesus that even their enemies notice their commitment to Him. When Peter and John were put on trial for their faith, they refused to stop telling others about Jesus. We need to be willing to stand up for Jesus, too. The way we live can help to point others to Him.
Most people think of worship as exclusively songs and music. We think worship is something we do in a service on Sunday mornings. But the Bible calls us to give our entire life as worship. We honor God with our songs and praise, but all of life is an opportunity to show God honor. We worship best when we make it a lifestyle, expressing our gratitude, prioritizing our time with Him, purifying our heart and actions, and generously sharing with others. We worship as we honor God with our whole life.
In this Live session, kids will discover the importance of expressing their thanks and gratitude to God. He has done so much for us and is continually taking care of us in ways we don’t even notice. Like the grateful leper, we should remember to honor God every day by giving thanks to Him.
In this Live session, kids will discover the importance of prioritizing God in the middle of their busy life. God wants to be the main focus of our whole life, not just a few minutes a day or if we get everything else done. The Bible story will show them how both Mary and Martha faced the choice of spending time with Jesus. Kids will be reminded to put God first and spend time with Him throughout each day.
In this Live session, kids will discover that being concerned with religious traditions is not as important to God as having a pure heart and relationship with Him. God cares about what is in our heart because that drives the motives behind our actions. God is honored when we choose to do what He says is right.
In this Live session, kids will discover that all our talents, time, and treasure are gifts from God. The Parable of the Talents shows kids that we should willingly give our gifts back to Him in any way possible. He wants us to use our gifts to further His mission and share His love with others.
The Bible has a lot to say about sin and forgiveness. It acknowledges the deep brokenness of this world and our individual life. It is only by understanding the depth of human sin that we can understand the remarkable work of God’s forgiveness. Because of His forgiveness, we escape the eternal consequence of our sin and can rightly respond to the call to live a holy life. We learn to receive forgiveness, put off sin, and show forgiveness to those who have sinned against us. We learn to pursue holiness in the midst of the world’s brokenness.
In this Live session, kids will discover that God wants us to live a holy life. To do this, we must be willing to let go of the sin and behavior that holds us back. When we do this, we not only honor God but also can experience a life closer to the way God intended.
In this Live session, kids will discover that we need forgiveness from God to be in right standing with Him. Even though we pursue sinlessness in our life and encourage others to do the same, we still need to accept God’s mercy and forgiveness to wipe away our previous sins and mistakes. This mercy, though we don’t deserve it, shows God’s heart for a relationship with us.
In this Live session, kids will discover that just as we have received forgiveness from God, we are called to show forgiveness to others. God showed us mercy when we didn’t deserve it, and in the same way, we should forgive others when they sin against us. Through this, we reflect God’s love to the world around us.
In this Live session, kids will discover that brokenness is part of the reality of the world we live in. Because of sin, the world doesn’t function as God intended. There is sin, disease, tragedy, and other hard things, all of which are part of our reality until we go to heaven. In light of that, unless we are wrestling with direct consequences of our actions, we must resist getting caught up in blaming something or someone. Instead, we should focus on how God can use the situation for His glory.
