Give your child the wonderful gift of God’s global view of the world. God loves all people of the world, not just those who look like us or act as we do. Today your child learned how King David loved God very much. King David taught the people in his kingdom to sing to God. It is important for us to encourage our children to praise God and Jesus through song too.
Play children’s praise CD’s often at home and in the car. Sing praise songs with your child while taking a walk or doing a chore. Make up your own tunes and teach your child to sing words of praise such as, “God, I praise You. You are powerful.” Sing and thank God for answering prayers. Together rejoice as King David did with songs of praise to God.

In today’s Bible Time, your child learned about the deep friendship between David, a shepherd, and Jonathan, the son of a king. Your child is becoming more social and is learning to participate with other children in group activities. They are beginning to understand to concept of friendship.
Share with your child how valuable friendships are. Intentionally tell them that you are sending a get-well card to a friend who is sick. Together, take food to a family you know who is in need. Explain that you are doing this because you want to show friendship and demonstrate you care. Your actions and words reveal to your child the blessings of friendship.

Working together is a GREAT way to encourage children to tackle their jobs with enthusiasm. Demonstrating how to help one another is a powerful teaching tool. Affirming a “job well done” goes a long way to encourage a child to do their best work.
Resist the temptation to compare the quality of work of two or more family members. Instead, encourage each individual to do the best they can do. Allow reasonable amounts of time for jobs to be completed. Remind family members that doing the best they can do is part of making right choices. God is pleased when we make right choices and help others.

Children often cannot wait to tell something that excites them. When we have good news, we want to share it! As followers of Jesus, we have very good news. The good news of God sending His Son, Jesus, to help us is the best news ever! Jesus said to His followers, “Go everywhere in the world. Tell the good news to everyone” (Mark 16:15).
Begin in your own home to tell this good news. Your children will learn about Jesus from example. Model an excitement about telling others the exciting story of Jesus!

Both the family in the home and the family in the church are important for nurturing spiritual growth in children. Equipping your child with a strong support system of people who care and hold similar beliefs is vital to your child’s growth.
Invite church friends into your home. Help your child grow to know people who will encourage their spiritual walk with Jesus. The end results will be worth the effort!

Today your child learned how a crowd of people rushed to shout praises as Jesus rode toward the city of Jerusalem. Other looked on in confusion. With all the excitement, their curiosity grew. They soon asked, “Who is He?”
Is your child curious to know who Jesus is? Does your child see you becoming excited as you read Bible stories about Jesus and pray to Him?
It is easy for the home to become so busy that family members are left unaware of the presence of Jesus. Take time this week to fill your home with excitement and praise as you welcome Jesus into each day!

How does your child respond to someone who is in need? How does he react when he notices another child has a special need? It is important for s to help our children understand other people and their unique qualities and needs.
Demonstrating a positive and helpful attitude when someone needs assistance teaches a Christlike behavior. Find moments to teach by example how to love others. Extend a helping hand when needed.
Jesus lived a life devoted to showing God’s love to those He came in contact with. We need to model Jesus’ love for our children to follow.

One of God’s greatest gifts is children. E.T. Sullivan writes, “When God wants great work done in the world or a great wrong righted, He goes about it in a very unusual way. He does not stir up His earthquakes or send forth His thunderbolts. Instead, He has a helpless baby born, perhaps in a simple home and of some obscure parents. And then God puts the idea into the parents’ hearts, and they put the idea into the baby’s mind. And then God waits. The greatest forces in the world are not the earthquakes and the thunderbolts. The greatest forces in the world are babies!
God wants to do great things through parents like you! Thank Him today for the gift of your child.

Wearing the parental hat is not always easy. We are God’s representatives to teach His ways to our children. Though the task is great, God promises to give us the strength, wisdom and assistance we need. We want our children to grow to become good decision makers as they observe faithful parents modeling wise direction and decision making on their behalf.
Teach your children that God loves them so much that He gave you to guide them. Remember to call on the Lord. He is waiting to give you exactly the help you need!

How did you learn to talk? How did you learn to make your bed? Who taught you how to ride a bike? The answer to most of these questions, and others like them, are your parents or other caregivers. You, in turn, are teaching your children and they will teach their children.
There are no lessons in life more important than those dealing with God and Jesus. You are your child’s greatest teacher. Set aside a basket of laundry and read a Bible story picture book to your child. Shut down the computer screen and teach your child a favorite Bible verse. Passing on to your children your faith and belief in God will be the most important job you do today.

Listening to God and doing right are two important aspects of a Christian’s life. As a parent, it us important to let your child know that people can listen to and hear the teachings of God through reading His Word, the Bible.
Your child needs to see you reading God’s Word. It is during one of those times that your child may ask, “What are you doing?” This teachable moment will give you the opportunity to answer, “I’m reading from the Bible and learning what God wants me to do>“ Your child will remember your example throughout his lifetime.

This week’s Bible lesson taught the importance of sharing with others. As a parent, you will need to teach your children how to share and be generous. Ask each family member for ideas about sharing with one another. Talk about ways to be generous during everyday activities. Post a list of the ideas suggested. Each day, choose and put into practice one of the ideas. Example: Today is “Share a Snack Day.” Practice generosity and hospitality as a family. Invite people to your home for dinner or dessert. Have the children participate by greeting guests, taking their coats, or bringing drinks to them. Together, make giving projects a regular part of your family life.

Teaching children to obey is an important part of the parenting process. Children need to learn at an early age the importance of being obedient. They need to know that sometimes being obedient can be difficult, especially when friends and other people around them are not obeying. Invest time in discussing the rules for your home. When possible, encourage children to be a part of the process of establishing family rules. Then be consistent in enforcing the rules. Reward a child with encouragement and affirmation when rules are obeyed and followed. Follow up any disobedience with the appropriate consequence. Remember that a commitment to obey God’s rules at home, at school, and throughout his life.

Developing a habit of demonstrating kind acts and using kind words is an important part of the growth process for children. In order for this growth to take place, kindness must be modeled in the home. In our fast-paced world, it is easy to overlook even simple acts and words of kindness. Kindness requires an investment of time and energy. Take advantage of opportunities to demonstrate kindness this week. Say please and thank you. Serve someone an unexpected drink of hot chocolate. Give a compliment. The investment of your time and energy will benefit your family for years to come. Continue to focus on kindness until it becomes a regular part of home activities.
Acts of Kindness
As a family, choose a way to show kindness to someone in your neighborhood this week. Is there an elderly woman who needs help with a specific chore? Would someone benefit from a home-cooked meal? Explore the possibilities of people who need help and then act upon the area of need with kindness.

Children have a natural curiosity when it comes to learning about money. At first, children think that having a lot of pennies or one big quarter means having a lot of money. They may think that having a nickel is worth more than a dime because it is bigger. At an early age, you can help your child develop wise money habits that please God. Purchase three colorful envelopes. Label the envelopes: God’s money, savings, my money. Each week, give your child a small allowance. Show your child how to put 10 percent in the envelope marked God’s Money. Do this first. Then put 40 percent in the savings envelope and 50 percent in the My Money envelope. Together, thank God for all that He gives us.

Today your child learned about the importance of praying to God. You can help your child apply this lesson. Talk with your child about the different kinds of prayers we offer to God: We praise God. We thank God for what He does. We tell God we are sorry when we make wrong choices. We ask God for His help. While God knows everything, He desires to hear from His children. God wants His children to recognize their needs and acknowledge their dependence on Him. As you pray with your child, demonstrate the different ways to pray. Allow your child to hear you praying, just as Jesus’ followers heard Him pray.
Prayer Jar
Sit together and talk about people, events, and issues to pray for. Write each prayer need on an individual slip of paper. Decorate a glass jar with stickers, paint, or permanent markers. Label the jar as your “Prayer Jar.” Fold the prayer slips and place them inside the jar. Choose a specific time when you will pull out a prayer slip and pray together every day.

The wise men brought gifts to Jesus because they knew He was a special gift from God. Help your children learn to worship Jesus by giving gifts to others. Choose a family-giving project. Collect clothing or toys and sponsor a child in a homeless shelter. Buy presents for children of prison inmates or send a shoe box of needed items to a child in a developing nation. Do this throughout the year and not just during this lesson. Talk about why we give to others– to show our love for Jesus. Helping your child focus on giving to others will lessen the focus on wanting so much for their self.
Family Fun
Ask your child what they think the wise men saw when they looked to the star. Talk about how bright the star might have been above Bethlehem. Read Matthew 2:10-11. How can we know what God wants us to know and do? God speaks clearly in His Word, telling those things He wants us to do to please Him. Jesus said, “Love your neighbors and pray for people who don’t like you.” When we care about others, we please God. Watch for times when loving actions are demonstrated in your home. Be ready to encourage family members who initiate those actions. As we embrace the teachings of Jesus, we show our love for God. Family Fun On individual slips of paper, write activities that take time to do for others. (Examples: Play with a younger sibling. Play a game your friend chooses. Help another family member do a family chore.) Place the slips of paper in a jar. Talk about Jesus’ teaching that we should give toothers. Encourage your preschooler to choose one slip of paper each day and give a gift of time to someone.

Have you ever wondered how people reacted when the shepherd told what they had seen and heard the night Jesus was born? Did the people laugh at the shepherds? Were they excited? Telling about Jesus can be scary because we may not know what to say and we do not know how people will react. As a family, find pictures of baby Jesus that children can show to others. Make up and learn a simple rhyme about Jesus’ birth. Practice showing the pictures and saying the rhyme to one another. Next, make a list of some safe people children can talk to about Jesus. Think of people who need to know about Jesus. Then like the shepherds, tell what you have seen and heard!
Shepherd’s Hunt
As a family, write a list of questions to discover about shepherds. What do shepherds do? Where do shepherds live? How many sheep can a shepherd take care of at one time? Take a family trip to a local library to discover the answers to your questions. Find children’s books that show pictures of them and give fun facts about shepherds.

A good start is to reserve time. Set aside time, as a family, to assemble figures from a manger scene. Using the figures, re-enact Gabriel appearing to Mary and Joseph. Stress how God cared for Jesus every moment He was on earth. Teach your children that God cares for them in the same way. Pray and thank God for His great news of comfort and joy.
Keeping Christ the center of your life is the most important gift you can give your children. In this week’s Bible story, your child learned about Jesus’ birth announcement from the angel Gabriel to Mary and the angel’s confirmation to Joseph. What might the soldiers of Israel have been thinking as they marched from day to day around the city of Jericho? Do you think they truly trusted Joshua’s leadership in the battle? Did they question or complain? How did they feel when the walls of Jericho fell after those seven long days of wearisome marching?
Parenting can be a tough battleground. Often we must march into the battle without understanding God’s direction. But God has promised that He will not give us more than we can handle. Demonstrate throughout your day how you are a faithful follower of Jesus. The daily trudge of battle is worth it when those little feet march in step with you, following God’s truths.
Family Time
Act out the directions God gave to Joshua for the fall of Jericho. Instruct each family member to creatively find or make a pretend trumpet. Then like the Israelite soldiers, march around a room seven times. Count, “1-2-3-4-5-6.” When you reach “7”, the trumpets sound and everyone can shout. Fall to the ground, representing the wall of Jericho falling. Sit together and talk about how the Israelites obeyed God.

Preschool children are beginning to notice what is happening in the world around them. Their conscience is beginning to develop. They know that it is right to share. It is wrong to hit. They love to please, so they are beginning to identify with the values of important people in their lives.
Now is the time when you can begin to make God and His Word relevant to your child’s life. Regularly read Bible stories to your child. Plan projects that will help your child understand caring and loving and serving God and others. Like Joshua, you can be the one to lead your household to be one of praise and service to the Lord!

Together, paint on the stone the Bible words, “We will serve the Lord our God.” Decorate and write each family member’s name on the stone. Talk about how God is the faith foundation for your family. Place the stone outside near the entrance of your home. All friends and family entering will see that your family serves the Lord God.

As a parent, you will need to help your children understand and grow in their ability to overcome fears. Recognize a child’s fears no matter how silly or small those fears seem to you. Read stories of other children who have experienced similar fears.
The Bible talks about fear and reminds us that perfect love drives out fear. Love and encourage your children so that they become confident of God’s love and care for them!

Every child needs a place where they can feel safe and secure, both physically and emotionally. Children must have their daily physical needs met, which includes food, shelter, and clothing. They need to feel safe physically from the darkness and sin in the world. Children also need to feel safe emotionally from the rejection or belittling of others.
God recognized these same needs in the Israelites when He provided for their daily needs through meat and bread from the sky, water from a rock, and so forth. As you provide for your child’s needs, be rest assured that God will provide for your needs. Teach your child that they can trust you because you trust God.

Children usually believe that almost anything is possible for them to do. They sometimes say “I can do it” when the task is actually beyond their physical capabilities. A child’s enthusiasm to take on a difficult task might put the child at risk, but that same enthusiasm can also motivate the child to learn and accomplish great things
What a wonderful moment it must have been for the Israelites to watch the waters of the Red Sea part! What seemed impossible to the people, God could do. God cared deeply for the people of Israel, and God cares for us too. Talk to your child about God’s care and His power. Encourage your child to do all that they can with God’s power working through them.

A child experiences faith and trust as their needs are met by loving caregivers. Ultimately this knowledge of faith and trust leads to an understanding of who God is. We have all heard how important praise and encouragement are to children. AS children grow, they need to hear frequent positive messages from others to gain a balanced and healthy self-worth and to know what is right and good about the choices they make.
Sometimes being a good encourager takes practice. Try using positive phrases with your children. How refreshed we feel when someone comes alongside of us and says positive words that motivate and encourage us in our choices. Let’s commit ourselves to doing the same for our children.
God Cares:
Children (of all ages!) love creative activities where they can express themselves. Prepare an area on a table with a protective covering. Provide paper, paints, glitter, and so on. Ask each family member to create a picture that shows a way God cares for your family. After the pictures dry, hang them as reminders that God always cares for us.
Bible Point: We can learn about God.

Give your child the wonderful gift of God’s global view of the world. God loves all people of the world, not just those who look like us or act as we do. The Bible says we are made “in an amazing and wonderful way” (Psalm 139:14).
Provide opportunities to explore other cultures. Children can begin to appreciate playing side by side with children who may speak a different language or have a different culture. Invite a family from another culture over for a meal. Correspond with a
missionary family. Read books and listen to music with other cultures. Help your child see people as God sees them— all His children.
God Created Me.
Children love to see pictures of themselves at younger stages of their lives. Pull out a favorite picture of your child at a younger age. Talk about the picture and why it is one of your favorite captured moments. Share with your child unique traits God had created in the child. Talk about how your child has grown and what has been learned since the picture was taken. Thank God together for making people.
Bible Point: God created everything!

Children are like sponges. They absorb every word that we say and then take it to heart. We need to be sources of encouragement and hope for them.
When God created the world, He looked at the things He had made. Over and over in Genesis 1, the Bible says, “God saw that it was good.”
Look at the things your child makes this week. Take time to praise your child’s work. Tell them that the work they have done is good, just as God’s work was good. Be a reflection of God’s love in creating a beautiful and fruitful relationship with your little one, for we were all made in the image of God, Genesis 1:26.
Memory Fun
Find these verses in a family Bible. Create a dance as you say the verses with your child. This week, help your child remember the seven days in the Creation Account.

Children have a natural curiosity about the world around them. Sharp, young eyes, questioning minds, and very busy hands automatically explore things from nature. What child can resist touching the petals of a sunflower, smelling the needles of a pine tree, or looking up at the sparkling stars?
Take advantage of informal opportunities when children explore their world to talk about God the creator. Reinforce the truths of God’s presence, goodness, and power. You can significantly impact your child’s appreciation of nature and understanding of our wonderful creator during the early years. Take time to “stop and smell the roses” with your child.

Always be aware of the great treasure and potential of your child. Be concerned about all areas of your child’s nurture and growth, but above all. Strive to help your child grow spiritually.
Look at yourself first. Much of what a child learns is caught rather than taught. The reflection of your faith in God will form the lasting image and concept your child will have about God.
Remember that what a child sees and experiences has a great significance. Since children develop deeply held beliefs from attitudes and feelings during the early years, be ready to relate all things of life to God. For example, “Thank You, God, for fish in the neighbor’s pond,” is a teachable moment that has great spiritual significance to a child.
Finding Fish
Venture to a pet store with your child. Walk through the area pf displayed fish. Talk about the different colors, sizes, and fins of the fish. Help your child count how many fish are in a tank and point out the various species of fish. On the way home, thank God for all the special fish that He created. This same activity can be done with a book about fish.

Give your child the wonderful gift of God’s global view of the world. God loves all animals of the world, not just those that live in our homes.
Provide opportunities to explore other species. Children can begin to appreciate the differences and variety in God’s intentional and unique creation. Invite over other friends to learn more about a new breed or species. Correspond with those who too know God’s goodness. Read books and watch documentaries or PBS shorts to further be informed on God’s incredible handiwork. Help your child see animals as God’s intimate creation— animals being a sliver of God’s full creation.
God Created Animals.
Children love to see pictures of little cute little animals to big exotic animals. Pull up a photo of a domesticated animal and with your child compare it to a wild life animal. Talk about the pictures and why those animals are one of God’s many gifts to the earth. Share with your child unique traits God had created in each of these animals. Talk about how these animals too experience and yearn for God through His creation. Thank God together for making all animals that roam earth and all of their unique purposes.
